It has long been used in incense, especially among French practitioners who call it incensier. It’s supposed to be great in hair tonics for those with dark hair. Rosemary purifies and protects. Its popularity with witches has been solidified thanks to the movie Practical Magic as it is stated: 

Always throw spilt salt over your left shoulder,

Keep rosemary by your garden gate, 

Plant lavender for luck, 

and fall in love whenever you can.
